Judge's Comment: "In any great painting, drawing and design both play a key role in creating an emotional impact on the viewer. This painting has both, in addition to eye-popping color choices. From a design standpoint, pattern is a building block in unifying the idea and bringing us continually back to the subject, the egret. I notice how the blades of tall grass lean in from the right in repetition of the feather-tips of the wings; the vertical-swooping branches at bottom do the same thing. The orange trunk of the background tree repeats the vertical limbs of the egret. The sinuous design of the egret moves our eye in an undulating path across the top of the painting, right down to the orange bill, that parallels the legs. Design carried the day for me in this painting. Creative!"

Painting has been very healing during this time of isolation and it has allowed me to focus on the beauty and intricacy of God's creation.
